The Battle of Khaybar is one of the most memorable events in Islamic history.
After several unsuccessful attempts to conquer the heavily fortified fortress of Khaybar, the Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) made a famous declaration:
“Tomorrow I will give the banner to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and Allah and His Messenger love him. Through his hands, Allah will grant victory.”
The next morning, the Prophet (PBUH) gave the banner to Imam Ali (a.s).
Imam Ali (A.S.) Leads the Battle
According to Islamic tradition, Imam Ali (a.s) advanced toward the fortress with complete trust in Allah.
There, he confronted the renowned warrior Marhab and defeated him.
As the fighting continued, Imam Ali (a.s) removed the great gate of the fortress. He then used it as a shield before the Muslims entered Khaybar and achieved victory.

For Shia Muslims, the lifting of the gate of Khaybar was not merely an extraordinary display of physical strength.
Instead, it was a miracle granted by Allah and a sign of Imam Ali’s unwavering faith, courage, and sincerity.

Because of this, the story of Khaybar has remained alive for more than fourteen centuries.
It teaches that when a believer places complete trust in Allah, obstacles that appear impossible can be overcome.
What the Gate of Khaybar Represents
Today, many followers of Imam Ali (a.s) describe themselves as the Shias of Ali.
However, they do not claim to possess his miraculous strength, nor do they compare themselves to his unique status.
Instead, they aspire to follow his example by:
- Standing for justice.
- Defending the oppressed.
- Remaining steadfast under pressure.
- Placing their trust in Allah.
For them, “uprooting the door of Khaybar” has become a powerful symbol.
It represents:
- Standing with the oppressed people of Palestine by confronting Israel, the United States – Greater Satan, and their Allies.
- Removing the barriers of fear.
- Overcoming oppression with faith.
- Refusing to surrender to injustice.
- Believing that no obstacle is too great when Allah is the source of strength.
The Lesson of Khaybar
Therefore, the lesson of Khaybar is not about a gate alone.
It is about conviction.
It is about courage.
Above all, it is about complete reliance upon Allah.
The Quranic Reminder
The Holy Quran reminds believers:
“If Allah helps you, none can overcome you.” (Quran 3:160)
Likewise, the example of Imam Ali (A.S.) teaches believers not to fear those obstacles.
Instead, they are called to face them with faith, wisdom, patience, and trust in Allah.
