Throughout History, Arrogance Has Been the Downfall of Powerful Rulers
The Holy Quran presents the story of Firaun (Pharaoh) not merely as history, but as a timeless lesson. He claimed absolute power, believed no force could challenge him, and declared himself above all others. Surrounded by wealth, armies, and authority, he imagined his rule would last forever.

The sea that seemed to protect him became the means of his destruction.

The Illusion of Permanent Power
Every generation witnesses individuals, governments, or empires that begin to believe they are untouchable. Military strength, economic influence, technological superiority, and political alliances can create an illusion of permanent dominance.
History, however, reminds us that every empire has limits.
The Quran repeatedly warns against arrogance because it blinds people to reality. When power is mistaken for permanence, and authority for invincibility, downfall often follows.
Many believers view contemporary conflicts through this Quranic lens. They see a recurring pattern in which overwhelming military strength is expected to produce unquestioned submission. Yet time and again, they believe determination, faith, and resilience have challenged assumptions that material superiority alone decides history.
The Real Source of Power
For them, the lesson is not that one nation is greater than another.
The lesson is that Allah alone is the true source of power.
The Connection Between Fir’aun and Karbala
The story of Fir’aun is closely connected to the story of Karbala.
At Karbala, Imam Hussain (A.S.) faced an army vastly larger than his own. By worldly standards, victory appeared impossible. Yet while the military battle ended on Ashura, the moral victory belonged to Imam Hussain (A.S.).
The empire that sought to silence him disappeared, while his message continues to inspire millions more than fourteen centuries later and the recent example is Iran USA war, where Faith defeated Missile Power.
A Pattern Repeated Throughout History
This pattern is repeated throughout history.
The lesson can be understood through the following points:
- Power without justice does not endure.
- Weapons without morality do not guarantee victory.
- Authority without humility eventually fades.
What the Holy Quran Teaches
The Holy Quran reminds believers:
“Indeed, Allah does not like the arrogant.” (Quran 16:23)
For believers, this is the real lesson behind every rise and every fall.
- Nations may possess armies.
- Governments may possess wealth.
- Superpowers may possess advanced technology.
But none possess absolute power.
Only Allah does.
The Defeat of Arrogance
The destruction of Fir’aun was not simply the end of a ruler. It was the defeat of arrogance itself. It became an eternal reminder that no matter how great human power appears, it remains dependent upon the will of Allah.
Every Generation Faces the Same Choice
Every generation therefore faces the same choice.
Will it follow the path of Firaun—built upon pride, oppression, and the illusion of absolute power?
Or will it follow the path of Musa (A.S.) and Imam Hussain (A.S.)—built upon faith, patience, humility, and trust in Allah?
History Continues to Answer
History continues to answer that question.
- Empires rise.
- Empires fall.
- The arrogant come and go.
But the promise of Allah remains unchanged:
Arrogance may appear powerful for a time, but it can never overcome the truth.
